## Common questions

When should I see a GP about a testicular lump? See a GP promptly for any new lump, swelling or change in a testicle. Most lumps are not cancer, but testicular cancer is more treatable when found early. Sudden severe testicular pain needs urgent care, not a wait for a routine slot. Is there NHS screening for prostate cancer? There is no national PSA screening programme in the UK. Men over 50, or over 45 if you are Black or have a close family history, can discuss the pros and cons of a PSA test with a GP. A raised PSA is not a cancer diagnosis. Is erectile dysfunction only a sexual problem? No. It can be an early sign of heart and circulation disease, diabetes or medicine side effects. A GP can check blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol as well as discussing treatment. Do not buy unregulated tablets online. What NHS checks should men in their 40s consider? In England, people aged 40 to 74 who do not already have certain long-term conditions are invited for a free NHS Health Check about every 5 years. It looks at blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes risk. See our NHS Health Check guide.
